The easiest Way to stop automatic Updates in Metatrader

MetaTrader automatically updates itself on your PC when MetaQuotes releases a new and improved version. There are many reasons to stop automatic updates in Metatrader. One reason is that, for example, you are using a msimg32 file bound to a specific build version.

For MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5, there are different ways to block automatic updates.

Disable Updates in Metatrader 4

Please open the data folder again via File -> Open Data Folder. Then click on “Metaquotes” in the Explorer bar to change the folder.

The folder structure now looks like this:

Now rename the folder “WebInstall” to “WebInstall.bak”. To do this, right-click on the folder and select the “Rename” function from the menu.

Then download a new WebInstall file.

The download link is here:

Please copy the file to the same folder.

If you have done everything correctly, it looks like this:

Now restart your Metatrader 4.

The automatic updates are now stopped.

Disable Updates in Metatrader 5

There is a similar procedure for Metatrader 5.

It is a little easier.

You open the data folder via your Metatrader 5 terminal: File -> Open Data Folder.

This one is known to look like this:

Now download a new LiveUpdate file.

You can find the link to the download here:

Now copy the file into the data folder. If you have done everything correctly, it will look like this:

Now you can restart your Metatrader 5 terminal, and the automatic updates are locked.
